The short version
- We never sell your data, and we never show anyone where you are.
- Your Dating page shows your first name and what you choose to add, never your last name, employer or contact details, and it's never indexed by search engines.
- oysterme never texts or calls anyone. Links go out from your own phone.
- Ex reviews come to you first. Vouch writers' emails are stored only as hashes. Private ratings are never shown.
- Every message is checked before delivery. Hurtful content is blocked, and repeat senders are banned.
- ID verification is optional and handled by Stripe. We never see your ID images. We don't run background checks.
- Hide or pause your page any time, and delete your account in the app or by emailing privacy@oysterme.co.
01Who we are
oysterme is a tap-to-share profile for single professionals. You share your page by tapping an oysterme band, card or phone tag to someone's phone, or by showing a QR code. They see your Professional page during work, or your Dating page when Dating mode is on. The app at app.oysterme.co helps you keep track of who you met, play First Date Prep, answer First Date Feedback, and, with oysterme+, find singles events and popular spots near you.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers oysterme.co and its subdomains, app.oysterme.co, the pages that open when someone taps or scans your oysterme, the links you send from the app, and our bands and packaging. "We," "us" and "oysterme" mean oysterme LLC.
It applies to members, who have an oysterme account, and visitors, who open a member's page or link without an account: someone you tap, a date who plays First Date Prep, or a friend, family member or ex who writes a vouch for you.
02What we collect from members
Account details
Your email address (and, if you sign in with Facebook, the name, email and profile photo Facebook shares with us), your date of birth so we can confirm you're 18 or older, and your settings.
Your Professional page
What you choose to add: your name, headshot, cover photo or video, title, company, bio, favorite quote, contact details, links, featured articles, experience, highlights and resume. When you paste a link to an article or post, we fetch its public title and preview image to build the card.
Your Dating page
What you choose to add, all of it optional: your first name, age, photos, where you live (city only), job, gender, height, how long you've been single, a short bio, a voice note of up to 30 seconds, prompts, interests, featured items, Instagram, and your five vibe-check answers. By design, your Dating page never shows your last name, employer, email, phone number or street address.
Vouches and reviews
If you ask a friend, family member, coworker or ex to vouch for you, we store what they write, who they are to you, and a private 1–5 rating they give that is never shown to anyone. We store a one-way hash of the writer's email to confirm it and to prevent duplicate or self-written vouches. Reviews from an ex stay private until you choose to show them.
Taps, shares and dates
Who shared their info with you (name, phone, Instagram or other link), FaceTime date requests, Spark picks, First Date Prep answers and First Date Feedback answers, and the first name, day and place you enter for a date.
Out tonight (oysterme+)
The zip code you search, the distance, dates and age range you pick, and any searches you save. We don't collect your device's GPS location. Zip code is the only location we use.
Activity
Events that power your Activity inbox, such as "your page was opened," "they gave you their number," or "a vouch arrived." These are approximate times and counts. They never identify a visitor who hasn't chosen to share with you.
Orders and payments
If you buy a band or subscribe to oysterme+, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your card details. We receive your name, shipping address, email, what you bought, and the last four digits of your card. We never see or store your full card number. We record when a band is activated, to run the product and to apply our Refund Policy.
03What we collect from visitors
Visitors don't need an account, and we collect as little as we can.
- Page views. When someone opens a member's page or link, we record that it was opened, when, which page, and basic device and browser information, so the member sees that their page was opened and so we can keep the service secure.
- A small identifier in the visitor's browser, so that "first impressions stick": someone who met you at work keeps seeing your Professional page even if you later switch modes. It is a random identifier, not used for advertising, and not shared with anyone.
- What visitors choose to share. If a visitor gives a member their number, Instagram or other link, requests a FaceTime date, or sends a Spark, we pass what they enter to that member. A Spark is only revealed if it's mutual.
- First dates. A date's answers to First Date Prep and First Date Feedback, and any optional note. Answers stay sealed until both people have answered.
- Vouches. What a vouch writer types, who they are to the member, their private rating, and a one-way hash of their email so we can confirm it. We don't store the email itself.
- Moderation records. If a visitor's message is blocked for breaking our Community Guidelines, we keep a record tied to a hash of their phone or email, so a warning and a ban can follow the person and not just the link.
04How we use information
- To show your pages to the people you tap or share with, and to show the right page based on your mode and the "first impressions stick" rule.
- To run your Contacts, Activity inbox, vouches, Sparks, FaceTime requests, First Date Prep and First Date Feedback.
- To deliver and support bands you order, and to run oysterme+ subscriptions and Out tonight.
- To generate AI features: reading a scanned card, polishing a profile when you ask, writing conversation starters from shared Prep answers, writing a resume from your answers, and the "best night to go" tips in Out tonight.
- To keep people safe: checking messages, notes and custom questions before they're delivered, acting on hide, block and report requests, and enforcing warnings and bans.
- To sign you in, send service emails, process payments, prevent fraud and abuse, fix bugs and improve oysterme.
- To advertise oysterme, including measuring whether our ads work (see "Cookies and advertising").
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
05How Dating mode protects you
- Two separate sides. Pro contacts never see Dating activity, and dating contacts never see your work details.
- First name only. Your Dating page leaves out your last name, employer, email, phone number and street address. Your city shows only if you turn it on.
- Nothing is indexed. Every profile page and link carries instructions that tell search engines not to index it.
- Tap links expire. The link a tap creates stops working 24 hours later. First Date Prep and Feedback links lock to the first phone that opens them and expire on their own.
- You approve ex reviews. A review from an ex comes to you first and stays private until you choose to show it. You can hide any vouch at any time.
- Sealed answers. Prep and Feedback answers stay locked until both people have answered, then are revealed to both at the same time.
- Pause, hide, block, report. You can pause your page so your band shows nothing, hide photos, turn off a specific tap's link, and block or report anyone who shared with you.
- Nothing explicit without a choice. In After Dark, anything our checks flag as explicit stays covered until the person receiving it chooses to see it.
06Texts and emails
When you follow up with someone, send a vouch request, or send a First Date Prep or Feedback link, oysterme opens your own Messages or email app with a suggested message. You decide whether to send it, and it comes from your number or address. oysterme never texts or calls your contacts or your dates.
We send email only to people who ask for it: sign-in codes, order and account notices, a one-time code to confirm a vouch, and, if you turn it on, the weekly Out tonight email. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
07AI features
Some features use AI from our provider OpenAI. We send only what each feature needs. Under OpenAI's API terms, it processes this data to provide the service to us and does not use it to train its models by default.
- Safety checks. Vouches, First Date notes, custom questions and messages are checked automatically before they're delivered. Voice notes are transcribed so the transcript can be checked. Flagged content is blocked and may lead to a warning or ban under our Community Guidelines.
- Profile help. Card scanning, profile polish you turn on, resume writing from your answers, and conversation starters from shared Prep answers.
- Out tonight. Events and spots are found by AI research on a schedule, checked against their source links, and labeled as research, not live data.
AI can make mistakes. Check scanned details before you save them, and verify events with the organizer before you go.
08Identity verification
If you choose to verify your identity, our verification provider (Stripe Identity) asks you for a photo of a government ID and a selfie, and compares the two. This involves biometric information (a face match). Stripe collects and stores the images and biometric data under its own privacy policy. oysterme receives only the result: verified or not, and the date. We don't receive or store your ID images or biometric data.
By starting verification, you consent to this processing. Where the law requires it (for example Illinois, Texas and Washington), Stripe's consent and retention terms are shown to you before you begin. Verification is optional. You can use oysterme without it.
11Your choices and rights
- Edit, pause or hide your pages at any time in the app. Pausing makes your band and QR code show nothing.
- Delete contacts, notes, vouches, first dates and saved searches in the app.
- Delete your account in Settings or by emailing privacy@oysterme.co. We delete your profile, contacts, vouches and first-date data within 30 days, except limited records we must keep for legal, safety or fraud-prevention reasons. If you signed up with Facebook, you can also start deletion from Facebook's app settings; it sends us a deletion request, which we honor the same way.
- Get a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, by emailing us.
- Opt out of targeted advertising: Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
- Visitors and vouch writers can ask us to delete what they shared by emailing us with enough detail to find it. A vouch writer can withdraw their vouch at any time, and it comes down.
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other US states), you may have additional rights to know, access, correct, delete or move your data, and to opt out of certain uses. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live, we won't treat you differently for using them, and you can appeal a decision by replying to our response. We may need to verify your identity first.
12How long we keep information
- Your profile, contacts, vouches and first dates: while your account is open, until you delete them.
- Tap links: 24 hours. Sparks: 7 days. First-date links: 72 hours. Results stay in both people's accounts until deleted.
- Page-view and activity records: as long as they're useful to show you activity and keep the service secure, then deleted or made anonymous.
- Moderation records (warnings and bans): as long as needed to keep banned people off the service.
- Orders: as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically 7 years.
- After you delete your account: deleted within 30 days, except the limited records above. Backups roll off on their normal schedule.
13How we protect information
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Data is stored with established providers, access is limited to the people who need it to run oysterme, and database rules keep each member's data separate from everyone else's. Private ratings sit in a table the app cannot read. Vouch-writer emails are stored only as one-way hashes. Sensitive links lock to the first device that opens them and expire.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
14Age requirement
oysterme is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We ask for your date of birth at sign-up and don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using oysterme, email privacy@oysterme.co and we'll remove the account.
15Changes to this policy
If we make changes, we'll update the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell members by email or in the app before it takes effect.
